The Blue Angel
In 2006, noraplan standard floorings were the first resilient floorcoverings to be awarded the Blue Angel under the new UZ 120 qualification guidelines. The Blue Angel (Blauer Engel) is a German certification for products and services that have environmentally friendly aspects. It is the label for an ecological better product alternative according to defined criteria. The purpose of the label is the environmental and consumer protection by transfer of information. Holder of the label is the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety. Meanwhile there are Blue Angel labels for 80 product categories with 3700 products and services of 800 companies.
The certificate has been awarded since 1978 by the Jury Umweltzeichen, a group of 13 persons from environment and consumer protection groups, industry, unions, trade, media and churches. It is the first and oldest label concerning environmental matters for products and services worldwide. Healthy living has been a major focus of the Blue Angel eco-label for many years now. By now, many building products and furnishings are available that have been tested for their compatibility with good health and awarded the Blue Angel – from paints and lacquers to furniture and mattresses. With its large surface area, flooring harbours a particularly high potential for polluting interior air.
